Music, movement and mission came together when The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research presented “Pap’s Got Talent” at the World Performing Arts Center at Lynn University, raising more than $120,000 to support the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Hosted by retired news anchor Michael Williams, Aaron Bower and Kay Renz, the show highlighted the talents of organization members while continuing its longstanding commitment to funding lifesaving research.
“Seeing the incredible dedication of our members translate into such a spectacular showcase of talent was truly moving,” said event co-chair Beverly Berkowitz. “Every note sung and every dance step taken on that stage represented our collective commitment to finding a cure.”
“Pap’s Got Talent” featured two contests. The first, “Vote for Pap,” served as a fundraising competition, with performers’ online videos generating more than $22,000. The second, a judged talent show, included a winning rendition of “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” by Pete DeJesse, who channeled both Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias. There was also a dance performance by Jon Eden, development director at the Sylvester Center, and his wife, Sarah Nachbauer.
“Raising over $120,000 through ‘Pap’s Got Talent’ is a monumental achievement that speaks to the heart of our mission,” said Susan Dinter, chair of The Pap Corps. “These funds provide vital support for the brilliant researchers at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, ensuring that the next generation of cancer treatments and cures becomes a reality.”
