The George Snow Scholarship Fund’s 32nd annual Cowboy Ball delivered a lively night of Western flair with a purpose, raising support for local students pursuing higher education. Presented by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the event brought donors, community leaders and advocates together, generating money for scholarships and Scholar Support Services.
A highlight of the evening came when Snow Scholar Laila Amro shared her story. Amro, who was raised by a single mother and became a caregiver for her older brother, who has autism, spoke candidly about how the experience prepared her for leadership roles. With support from the George Snow Scholarship Fund, she is now studying at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), where she serves as a resident assistant and president of the Women Empowerment Club. She plans to graduate in December 2026.
“You’re not just funding a degree,” Amro said. “You’re empowering a big sister to become a leader at FAU. Everyone in this room is turning what-ifs into what’s next.”
The program also recognized Steve and Debbie Schmidt with the Community Service Award and presented the Corporate Community Service Award to the Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation. Additionally, guests were treated to a preview of the Boca’s Ballroom Battle event, set for Nov. 7 at The Boca Raton, with Dorothy MacDiarmid and George Petrocelli announced as co-chairs.
