Every step will count during the Walk the Talk for Epilepsy event taking place in various venues in Florida. Locally, participants can join in at 8 a.m. April 15 in West Palm Beach at Howard Park or April 22 at Zoo Miami.
The walks raise money to support Epilepsy Alliance Florida’s services and programs, which include prevention and education, psychological services and a camp for participants in a safe, medically supported environment.
“Walk the Talk for Epilepsy raises awareness and funds for individuals living with epilepsy. Over 500,000 people in Florida struggle with epilepsy, making it the state with the most instances in the country,” notes the group’s website. “Epilepsy, a common neurological condition that one in 26 people will be diagnosed with at some point in their lives, is a diagnosis when a person experiences two or more seizures that cannot be attributed to another cause.”
The disorder is the fourth most common neurological disease in the United States.
“Epilepsy Alliance Florida is dedicated to supporting those impacted by epilepsy by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures,” the group’s website explains.
Participants in the event can be a sponsor, create a team or volunteer to help with the event.
