The South Florida Symphony Orchestra has returned with its popular “Summer with the Symphony” candlelit concerts. Running May 14 through July 24, the chamber music series features six performances in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables.
The program opened with “Whispering Waters,” pairing Hummel’s Piano Quintet, Op. 87, with Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet, and featured Huifang Chen on the violin, Brandon Wu on the viola, Claudio Jaffe on the cello, Amy Nickler on the bass and Tao Lin on the piano.
June’s concert, “Sparkle & Charm,” spotlights Farrenc’s elegant Piano Trio No. 2, Op. 34, and Pejačević’s brilliant Piano Trio, Op. 29. With Catherine Lan on the piano, Huifang Chen on the violin and Christopher Glansdorp on the cello, the performance takes place June 25 at the Coral Gables Museum and June 26 at the Center for Spiritual Living Fort Lauderdale. The series wraps up July 23 and 24 with “Sweet Serenade”: Dohnányi’s tender Serenade for String Trio and Dvořák’s spirited Piano Quartet No. 2, Op. 87. Each concert concludes with opportunities for the audience to mingle with the musicians.
