Palm Beach Symphony has a new accolade to celebrate — its first-ever Emmy Award — thanks to audio producer Carlos Lopez, whose work on “The Carnival of More Animals” earned top honors at the 49th Annual Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards Gala. The win spotlights not only Lopez’s artistry but also the Symphony’s commitment to making orchestral music accessible and enchanting for young audiences.
A spirited reimagining of Camille Saint-Saëns’ 1886 “The Carnival of the Animals,” the production transfomed the beloved classic into a Florida-inspired adventure. Music director Gerard Schwarz conducted the lively score, weaving in indigenous species, conservation themes and striking visuals filmed at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary and provided by Friends of Manatee Lagoon. Animal Planet host Forrest Galante narrated, blending science and storytelling into a dynamic, kid-friendly journey that aired on South Florida PBS.
Schwarz, who once taught Lopez at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, praised his former student’s achievement and the talent behind the televised performance. The Symphony’s educational reach continues to grow, with its children’s concerts and outreach programs touching more than 90,000 students in recent years.
With its Emmy win and a steadfast roster of community supporters, Palm Beach Symphony continues to strike a harmonious balance between artistic excellence and meaningful impact.
