A display of larger-than-life poppies is transforming Galleria Fort Lauderdale into a tribute to veterans. The Poppy Project Pop-Up Living Garden will be on view from Sept. 10 through Nov. 10, decorating the shopping center with handcrafted fiberglass flowers, some standing as much as six feet tall, as well as tropical plants and shrubs. The installation, designed by South Florida–based Ingham Landscaping, draws on the poppy’s longtime significance as a symbol of remembrance and sacrifice, and it’s intended to raise awareness and funds for Henderson Behavioral Health’s veteran mental health services.
“Galleria Fort Lauderdale has a long history of supporting worthy causes and is proud to support Henderson Behavioral Health’s efforts to help those who dutifully served our country,” Shaneika Haskins, marketing director at Galleria Fort Lauderdale, said in a statement.
Visitors are encouraged to take photos of the garden and post them to Henderson Behavioral Health’s virtual Legacy Wall, where families and friends may recognize loved ones who have served or are currently serving. The Legacy Wall also offers a place to make donations to support the organization’s VICTORY (Veterans in Counseling to Obtain Recovery) Program, which provides free mental health services, outreach and educational resources for veterans, active-duty service members and their families throughout South Florida.
