Get An Up-Close Look At Florida’s Beloved Sea Creatures At Manatee Lagoon
Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Friendly Center invites visitors to witness the breathtaking seasonal migration of Florida’s beloved manatees. Through March 31, during manatee season, these gentle marine mammals — often called “sea cows” due to their slow, grazing nature — gather in the warm waters of Florida Power & Light Company’s (FLP) Rivera Beach Clean Energy Center outflow, offering a rare opportunity for the public to observe manatees basking up close.
“We are excited to welcome guests to Manatee Lagoon this season,” says Rachel Shanker, education and conservation manager. “Winter is a great time to witness manatees in their natural habitat and to appreciate the crucial role they serve in our ecosystem.”
This one-of-a-kind experience also provides an educational journey for visitors of all ages. The 16,000-square-foot center features engaging, hands-on exhibits that offer insights into these unique creatures as well as the natural wonders of the surrounding Lake Worth Lagoon.
Visitors will discover the importance of manatee conservation and learn about the center’s ongoing environmental preservation initiatives. Interactive exhibits like a seagrass nursery and mangrove tank, along with guided tours, are also available throughout the day.
