Boca Raton's newest nature preserve is now open to the public.
The city completed the project in June after adding natural trails, accessible parking and walkways, an educational kiosk, fencing and invasive species removal. Portions of the trail are paved to improve accessibility.
Additional gopher tortoise burrows were discovered during construction, prompting the city to adjust the design to further protect the animals and their habitat.
The preserve is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset. Free parking and a bike rack are available.
Gopher Tortoise Preserve is located at 10 W. Hidden Valley Blvd., Boca Raton. For more information, visit myboca.us.
