Lion Country Safari has been sold to the Larry Ellison family in a $30 million deal, which closed in November, ending 58 years of ownership by the park’s founding families. Opened in 1967, the drive-through safari park is considered the first cageless zoo in the country. The 320-acre attraction offers a drive-through safari, a walk-through adventure park and an award-winning KOA campground. Over the decades, it has become a beloved staple of the South Florida community.
At the safari, large herds of animals from six continents roam in open, naturalistic habitats, while visitors view them from the safety of their vehicles. Among the hundreds of wild animals are lions, wildebeests, giraffes, ostriches, chimpanzees, rhinos and the largest herd of zebras on record in North America.
Lion Country Safari is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It was also recognized as one of the top three zoos in America by the USA Travel Guide and one of the ten best safari parks by USA Today.
Operations will continue as normal, and the guest experience and wildlife conservation will remain unchanged.
