Loggerhead Marinelife Center To Host Third Annual ‘HallowMarine’
Grab your little ones and dress up in your favorite Halloween costume for the third annual Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s (LMC) HallowMarine, scheduled for Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Promising a fun-packed day of family-friendly activities, HallowMarine will feature sustainable trick-or-treat stations, animal enrichment and feeding talks, discovery shows, junior veterinary labs and visits to the center’s sea turtle patients. Also available this year will be face painting, recycled Halloween crafts, veterinary-themed photo opportunities and scavenger hunts. The latter will incorporate both festive decor and interactive experiences within the center’s ecosystem habitats.
Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to witness one of LMC’s most beloved interactive discovery shows. In this spooky, marine-themed 10-to-15-minute presentation, spectators will learn about their favorite sea creatures up close.
In line with LMC’s ongoing recycling efforts, this sea turtle research, rehabilitation, education and conservation center is also hosting “Unwrap the Waves,” a monthlong candy wrapper recycling program that lets community members embrace the Halloween spirit while raising awareness of the significant single-use waste generated by the holiday.
As part of the initiative, HallowMarine will include an area on campus where guests can recycle their collected candy wrappers. However, program participants can also drop off used candy wrappers in the TerraCycle boxes stationed at partnering organizations, businesses and community buildings, which will then be collected by LMC and sent out to be recycled. According to a press release, last year, a total of 309,000 candy wrappers were collected and recycled.
