Mondays Are For Mahjong
Death By Pizza In Delray Beach Launches Biweekly ‘Mahj Mondays’
Mahjong is finding new life across South Florida, drawing younger players and social groups to tables once associated largely with retirement communities. In Delray Beach, Death By Pizza is embracing the trend with “Mahj Mondays,” a biweekly gathering centered on tiles, pizza and conversation.
Held every other Monday, the event invites players of all skill levels to bring friends, meet new people and enjoy an evening focused more on socializing than competition. Seating is limited and reservations are required.
“I recently started playing mahjong and loved how it naturally brings people together,” Jamie Wexler says in a release. “Since I was often bringing food from my husband’s restaurant, Death By Pizza, to mahjong games for friends to enjoy, I thought it would be a fun idea to invite people into the restaurant to share a night of mahjong, great food, and community built around a shared interest.”
Reservations include a Caesar salad and spinach dip to start, followed by Detroit-style pizza, a cookie and soft drinks. Wine and beer are available for purchase.
Founded by siblings Koby and Zoey Wexler, Death By Pizza began as a pop-up and has since expanded to multiple Delray Beach locations. Upcoming “Mahj Mondays” are scheduled for June 29, July 13 and July 27.
