The Symphonia Closes 20th Anniversary Season At The Studio At Mizner Park
The Symphonia, South Florida’s premier chamber orchestra, will conclude its celebratory 20th anniversary season with “Concert V” on April 29 at 7 p.m. The performance, held at The Studio at Mizner Park in Boca Raton, will feature The Symphonia’s principal conductor and artistic advisor, Alastair Willis.
The evening’s program features a rich and varied repertoire, including Holst’s lively “St. Paul’s Suite,” Jessie Montgomery’s “Strum,” the evocative “Ascending Bird” by Siamak Aghaei and Colin Jacobsen and Tchaikovsky’s timeless “Serenade for Strings.”
Since its founding in 2004, The Symphonia has enriched South Florida’s art scene through performances and educational outreach programs that spotlight nationally and internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists — cultivating an appreciation for classical music among all generations, with a special focus on young audiences.
Willis, who also serves as the music director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, has conducted prestigious ensembles around the world, including the Chicago Symphony, New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Mexico City Philharmonic and China National Orchestra. His recording of Ravel’s “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” with Nashville Symphony and Opera for Naxos received a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Album in 2009.
