Walk4Friendship Brings Boca Raton Together To Support Individuals With Special Needs
On March 2, more than 1,000 participants will gather for Boca Raton’s third annual Walk4Friendship — a one-mile fundraising walk organized by Friendship House to support programs for individuals with special needs in South Florida. Open to the public, this family-friendly event promises a day of fun and meaningful connection, bringing the community together for an important cause.
“In our fast-paced world, Walk4Friendship reminds us to slow down and appreciate the unique gifts each person brings to our community,” says Rabbi Sholom Ber Kessler, director of Friendship House of Boca Raton and event organizer. “Each year, this walk grows bigger, but our message stays the same: Here in South Florida, no one should walk alone.”
Since its inception in 2020, Friendship House has been committed to enriching the lives of young people with disabilities in Palm Beach County. It runs monthly social and educational programs for children, teens and adults with disabilities, pairing them with community volunteers to build bridges of friendship.
The event kicks off at 10 a.m. at South County Regional Park’s Sunset Cove Amphitheater with registration and an opening ceremony, followed by the one-mile walk. Afterward, participants can enjoy a carnival-themed celebration from noon to 2 p.m., featuring exciting rides, moon bounces, a rock-climbing wall and an acrobatic performance by the Chicago Boyz. Kosher food, including hot dogs, burgers, snacks and drinks, will also be available — perfect for a day of community and giving.
With Boca Raton’s special needs community rapidly growing, access to support is more crucial than ever. “This segment of our society is falling through the cracks and in tremendous need of resources and support. Without programs like Friendship House, children and youth with special needs often find themselves isolated from everyday activities and socialization opportunities, lack friends and feel lonesome and forgotten,” this organization said in a press release.
Walk4Friendship expects to raise $150,000 for special needs and disability programs in South Florida.
