While you won’t find Kavita Channe stomping on grapes like Lucy and Ethel did on “I Love Lucy,” the former sports reporter is crushing it in the wine biz. On a fateful trip to France in 2016, she developed a newfound love of rosé. Channe soon returned to attend an industry event where she connected with a winemaker who runs a farm in Provence.
The Sip Channé CEO and founder launched her sugar-free and low sulfite wine, Channé Rosé, in 2018, followed by Channé Blanc, a white wine, in 2022. They’re on the menu locally at PGA National Resort, The Boca Raton and The Biltmore Hotel; are sold in select retailers and are available to ship to most states from the website. A red wine and sake are under consideration for the brand’s future.
Working toward earning her sommelier certification and passionate about biohacking, longevity, wellness and fitness, Channe says, “I’m really excited to spread healthy sips.”
Originally from London with Indian heritage, Channe was primarily raised in Coral Springs when her dad transferred to Florida for work. She dabbled in modeling and acting in middle and high school and majored in journalism and business at the University of Florida. She had a stint on the Fox reality show “Paradise Hotel,” followed by behind-the-scenes work in the entertainment industry before her on-camera hosting talent was discovered. Channe interviewed celebrities and athletes and did sideline reporting for professional football, basketball, hockey, baseball and more. Today, she’s on WE and Travel Channel’s travel and dining shows “Destination Divas” and “Dining Divas.”
The single mom of two, daughter Micah, 6, and son Maverick, 5, is raising her children in Fort Lauderdale, but travels with them to Europe, Aspen and the Hamptons, the latter of which inspired her children’s book, “Frederick the Hamptons Frog.” It’s about a frog who takes daily swims in the family’s pool. A follow-up, “Frederick Goes to Florida,” is coming soon.
On the board of 211 Broward, Channe lives by her motto, “Giving is Living.” “I always feel like the more you give, the more you get. It lets you focus on helping somebody else and that is free therapy. It makes you feel alive.”
