With the start of school just around the corner, many families choose August as a final opportunity to spend time together before the busy fall schedules take over. It only makes sense, then, that August is also National Family Fun Month.
About three-quarters of U.S. adults (73%) say spending time with family is one of the most important things to them, regardless of how much time they actually spend together, according to a Pew Research Center poll.
There are several reasons family time is important. It helps build confidence (especially in children), improves communication, creates memories and strengthens bonds.
Spending time together doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s the quality of the time that counts, say the experts. Something as simple as a day at the park or beach, a family bike ride, a game night or making popcorn and watching a movie everyone agrees on can be considered quality time.
