This is the year of the curve — not in fitness, but in design. According to Houzz’s home design predictions, soft, rounded shapes are taking center stage.
We’re talking circular coffee and dining tables with cylindrical legs, oblong mirrors, bulbous sofas and accent chairs. Houzz also predicts that arches will be big throughout the home, appearing in doorways, windows, niches, cabinets and millwork.
Rooms are getting makeovers too, with homeowners taking their cue from classic English country-style kitchens. Range alcoves, sometimes arched, add an architectural element to the space.
The use of natural materials such as limestone backsplashes, thick stone flooring and warm woods is in, replacing the sleek, modern look of porcelain.
The bathroom is one place homeowners seek respite, and shower rooms are one way to accomplish this. Shower rooms that feature glass doors leading into an enclosed space allow for features such as steam and sauna functions, aromatherapy and chromotherapy or color therapy.
Much like the English style seen in kitchens, laundry rooms are being designed with rich cabinet colors, luxurious finishes, elegant wallpaper and tasteful lighting — if you have to do that tedious chore, you might as well do it in soothing surroundings.
Other design trends for 2025 include panels on appliances and treatment on the ceilings, such as beams, painted shiplap and wood panels. Meanwhile, woven and mesh fronts add detail and texture to cabinets.
Happy decorating!
