Do you plan to hand out Halloween candy this year? An estimated 52% of people say they will, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos on behalf of candymaker Mars Inc.
The survey asked 2,256 adults in the U.S. about their plans for the spooky holiday. Thirty-six percent said they would be dressing up; 3% said they would be attending a Halloween party.
The survey also examined generational differences, with more Gen Zers and Millennials heading out to parties, while more Gen Xers and Baby Boomers plan to stay home to hand out candy.
Millennials favor buying fun-size candy (56%) while Gen Zers prefer full-size bars (41%).
Chocolate reigns supreme, with 88% purchasing something chocolatey. However, gummies are a favorite among younger generations (56% of Millennials and 60% of Gen Zers).
The survey found that most consumers who plan to purchase candy look for variety bags with a blend of fruity and chocolate candies. To meet that demand, Mars is selling variety bags that mix Twix, Snickers, Lifesavers Gummies and Skittles Gummies.
Look for some new flavors too from Mars, including M&M’s Milk Chocolate Pumpkin Pie, as well as Twix and Snickers Ghoulish Green.
