ESPN and Disney have teamed up to bring soccer to the Magic Kingdom. From Jan. 17-20, top soccer clubs will compete in front of college coaches and hundreds of recruiters at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
The event began in 2000 and, in the 25 years since, has become hugely popular. The 220-acre complex is also home to 11 baseball and softball diamonds and 17 outdoor multipurpose fields and hosts amateur and professional sporting events throughout the year.
Girls aged 15 to 19 from across the country will participate. At last count, 150 teams have been accepted, making it one of the most elite events in youth soccer and a primary goal for top clubs.
The showcase began in early December with junior players aged 11 to 14. The boys’ showcase for ages 15 to 19 took place at the end of December with 85 teams participating.
Other tournaments include the President’s Day Tournament for boys and girls aged 9 to 19 and the Memorial Day Tournament May 24-26.
