Hoping to avoid being alone in the new year? You’re in good company! After the holiday festivities wind down and the family heads home, many people turn to dating apps. In fact, the first Sunday of the new year has been dubbed “Dating Sunday,” which in 2025 will fall on Jan. 5.
Data shows that direct messages (DMs) shoot up by 22% on Dating Sunday. From Jan. 5 until Valentine’s Day, Tinder alone sees 58.7 million more likes compared to the rest of the year.
If you can’t stand waiting for an answer, Dating Sunday is your day: response times are 19.4 minutes faster than on any other Sunday. What causes all of this increased swiping and liking? For many, the new year represents a fresh start.
According to Pew Research, three in 10 adults have used a dating app or site, most of whom — 53% — are under the age of 30. That’s not to say older folks don’t look for love online. Twenty percent of those aged 50 to 64 and 13% of those older than 65 are looking for “the one” online.
If you are considering looking for your true love, the best day to log on post-holiday is Monday between 7 and 8 p.m., according to Bumble.
With all the new competition, it may be time to up your game. Consider refreshing your photos and updating your bio for best results.
