Boca Raton is quietly becoming one of the country’s most compelling small‑city destinations for ambitious professionals, according to a 2026 CoworkingCafe study that ranks the top U.S. cities with fewer than 250,000 residents for career growth and quality of life.
Boca landed at No. 14 on the list, backed by metrics that highlight its growing appeal. With 12,640 business establishments per 100,000 residents, the city offers a great deal of economic opportunity in addition to its coastal ease.
The study analyzed 298 cities using a variety of measures, such as wage growth, employment rate, industry diversity, commute times, healthcare access and broadband availability.
Boca Raton scored well across several categories, including low unemployment and a highly engaged workforce. Its mix of finance, tech, health sciences and professional services creates a broad runway for early- and mid-career workers seeking upward mobility without the pressures of a major city.
Nationally, the study named Alpharetta, Ga., the top small city for big careers, thanks to its high incomes, strong employer base and proximity to Atlanta. South Jordan, Utah, followed with extraordinary wage growth (up 72% since 2019), while the Silicon Valley cities of Mountain View, Santa Clara and Palo Alto rounded out the top five, with the median income in each one approaching or exceeding $200,000.
Boca Raton’s rise signals a broader shift: Smaller cities that combine economic density with livability are increasingly attracting professionals seeking both success and balance.
