Florida has a lot going for it. According to WalletHub’s 2025 Best States to Live In rankings, much of its appeal lies in the lack of a state income tax, strong job growth and a vibrant cultural scene.
It ranked highly for leisure activities and stood out as a haven for food lovers. While major metro areas such as Miami face high living costs, Florida’s overall economic growth continues to attract families and professionals alike. Still, challenges in health care access, education quality and rising housing costs kept the state from breaking into the top five.
The top-ranked states emphasized fundamentals such as education, health care and safety. Massachusetts claimed the No. 1 spot, driven by world-class health care, high household incomes and top-rated schools. Idaho followed, buoyed by low property taxes, safe communities and rapid income growth. New Jersey ranked third, offering strong public safety, excellent health care and one of the nation’s highest household incomes. Wisconsin placed fourth, blending affordability with quality education and health care, supported by a balanced economy and low crime rates. Minnesota, noted for strong health care access, high educational attainment and a strong cultural scene, rounded out the top five. Florida finished sixth, underscoring that lifestyle amenities and economic opportunity can outweigh persistent challenges.
