The homeowners of this 2019 property in St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton wanted a home that fit their active lifestyle, while being suitable for entertaining in style, yet comfortable and welcoming enough for family visits.
Seeking a contemporary but warm look with a “wow factor,” they got what they asked for with Susan Lachance Interior Design, Inc., who delivered the “wow” and then some.
“The most important element in contemporary design requires a talent for defining the function of the space, blending shape and scale to convey both balance and harmony at the same time,” says Lachance.
The 6,991-square-foot, five-bedroom home is a stunning showcase of this idea, boldly observed in distinctive architectural elements, fine millwork and interior furnishings that all suggest movement, energy and flow throughout the spaces.
Celebrating 40 years in the business, Lachance, based in Boca Raton, is recognized for her work in traditional, contemporary and metropolitan design in projects throughout the South Florida metro area.
Ceiling heights vary throughout the home — from 12 feet to a soaring 26 feet in the living room and foyer that opens to the floating staircase. The dramatic staircase, built by South Florida Stairs, is constructed of floating glass supported by a metal beam. Stair treads are in walnut wood.
Lachance uses a neutral palette incorporating greige (somewhere between gray and beige) with unabashed splashes of accent color.
The designer says, “Each room presented its own color scheme, be it tranquil blues in the master suite, taupe with dark blue and magenta, lime green and threads of blue throughout the house.”
Warm, washed oak floors with area rugs are used throughout. Motorized solar shades along with blackout shades shield from the sun and motorized sheer draperies serve as window treatments.
The striking kitchen features Eggersmann USA cabinetry in an off-white finish with white Miele glass-front appliances. The backsplash is a bronze metallic tile from Porcelanosa. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops with a waterfall edge grace the 12-foot-long island. Horizontal lines in dark wood around the cabinetry define the space and suggest a grounding center of hearth and home.
Adriana Hoyos furniture is used in the breakfast room off of the kitchen.

A magnificent coffered wood ceiling in the kitchen and family room by Exotic Woodwork & Furnishing “blends with the furniture and adds another conversation piece to the architecture of the room,” says Lachance.
The family room has leather motion seating and a custom cocktail table from Swaim.
Separating the space of the family room from the dining room is a double-sided bar with recessed LED lighting crafted by Living Color Cabinetry, serving both for entertaining and storage.
A floating walnut ceiling draws the eye up in the elegant dining room. A chandelier from Wired Custom Lighting with handblown glass tubes and bronze metal is centered over the Century Furniture dining table that seats 12 and has a wood top with acrylic and wood base. On-trend interlocking dimensional stone from Cavastone covers the wall, adding texture.
Bookmatched marble in the double-sided fireplace wall accentuates the luxurious vertical space in the living room. The marble is from Nature of Marble. The millwork is by Living Color Cabinetry. The linear fireplace is from Modern Flames. The enormous pop-culture themed triptych on the opposing wall enhances the sense of verticality as well.
A Tai Ping custom area rug covers the floor in the living room. The seating includes Grafton Furniture custom upholstery. Bright bursts of color in accent pillows echo in the artwork.
The seating arrangement in the living room allows for facing the fireplace as well as taking in the golf course views from the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Let the games begin in this color-coordinated game room designed for the homeowners’ grandchildren. Blues and greens are inspired by hues found in nature and applied to bring the outside in. The wall-to-wall Missoni-inspired carpet ties all the colors together. Judith Norman upholstered seating is used here as well as in the family room and loft.

“The bright splashes of color energize the room where children do homework and play video games,” Lachance says.
The main floor master suite is designed to create a tranquil, yet luxurious sanctuary for the busy couple. The soothing, soft blues and neutrals inspire calm and relaxation.
A beveled upholstered headboard with a walnut surround adds a touch of grandeur. The bench is Grafton Furniture custom upholstered.
The marble walls and tub make for an inviting spa feeling in the master bath. An artisanal Boyd silver leaf and crystal chandelier illuminates the space with a soft glow.
The office exudes sophistication and organization. A light color palette in flooring and cabinetry, including glass-fronted cabinets, is used to brighten up the space. The focal point in the room is a Hunt Slonem butterfly artwork from Rosenbaum Fine Art, a beautiful backdrop for Zoom sessions.
Lachance says that one of her challenges was choosing the right art for the home, something she accomplished successfully. The artwork pops in every space and exudes a dynamic, playful spirit throughout the property.
At the top of the stairs on the second level is a cozy loft with a television that serves as a common area between all the bedrooms. Glass mounted above the knee wall provides a sound barrier to prevent noise from transferring down into the living room. A Judith Norman upholstered sofa with rich blue accents provides comfortable deep seating that accommodates many and is enhanced by the rhythm of the wall of painted metal and glass modules on stainless stand-offs.
With the project completed, Lachance says her greatest satisfaction is “having a happy client who uses the house both for entertaining and with their family on a regular basis.”
That’s what a little “wow” can do.
