We’ve all heard the expression “Money makes the world go ‘round,” and, in our fast-paced, modern world often buoyed by dollars and cents, this can certainly feel true.
I’d like to offer a different perspective with a quote from writer/philosopher Ayn Rand who says, “Money is only a tool. It will take you wherever you wish, but it will not replace you as the driver.”
After all, we are the masters of our own destiny, or at least, active participants in our business and wealth decisions. Which is why I’m thrilled to showcase dynamic businesswoman and founder of It Cosmetics Jamie Kern Lima on our cover. “Making It Big” (page 62) shares how Kern Lima overcame adversity and rejection in the world of business and went on to create one of the country’s most successful cosmetic brands today. I’m so grateful she believed in herself and her product — the Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer is a game changer in the world of makeup!
We also have a compelling story on luxury real estate and Bravo’s “Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” reality show celebrity Josh Altman, aptly titled “Real Estate Royalty” (page 74). Altman’s drive and tenacity began with scrounging enough money to buy his first property, surviving the real estate crash and rising again to be LA’s realtor for the stars.
When it comes to finance, the digital era has teens and young adults engaged in money matters more than ever before. Check out “Show Me The Money” (page 80) to see how personal finance influencers are demystifying what was once deemed an intimidating and inaccessible world.
All (business) eyes are on our wonderful, sunny state. “Business Boom” (page 68) explores how companies forced to revisit their identity as a result of the pandemic are heading to Florida for our glorious weather and much more.
Last, but not least, I am a proud mother hen after the 2021 Florida Magazine Association Charlie Awards Gala in Sarasota where The Boca Raton Observer won 12 awards. Our magazine was the only one to win accolades in every “Best Overall” category: “Best Overall Magazine,” “Best Overall Design” and “Best Overall Writing.” My team does an amazing job issue after issue, and this month is no exception. I hope the pages in this issue will inspire you to climb into the driver’s seat and be rearing to go!
Best,
