If you’re scratching your head wondering how we got to December already, you are not alone. It feels like just yesterday I was making my summer plans. And while this year — and especially these past few months — has felt like it’s been on fast-forward, December, with its packed holiday schedule, remains one of my favorite times of the year. Beyond the holiday celebrations and extra perks (both my husband and I celebrate our birthdays this month), December is, for me, a time of precious family moments. I think Albert Einstein said it best: “Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life.” Even though times may feel tumultuous, it’s family that always grounds me, bringing me peace, hope and joy.
Our December Holiday Issue captures this season of celebration perfectly. We begin with the legendary five-time Grammy winner Renée Fleming, whose profile, “A Beautiful Voice” (page 74), explores her 40-year career and her passion for uncovering the powerful link between music and health.
And speaking of music and health, do you ever find yourself happily humming along to a song playing in a store? This time of year, it’s practically unavoidable. Our story “Tuned For The Holiday” (page 80) dives into the impact Christmas music has on our well-being, backed by research that shows the emotional connection we have to these festive songs.
In keeping with the season’s spirit of celebration, we also spotlight seasoned actor Jeremy Sisto. Whether you first fell for him as Billy Chenoweth on HBO’s hit “Six Feet Under” (a show I personally could not get enough of) or follow him now on CBS’ “FBI,” our feature “Committed To The Craft” (page 86) reflects on his expansive career, family life and the exciting projects that lie ahead.
What else lies ahead? Cookies! That’s right — it’s just not the holidays without them. Whether you’re the baker or the lucky recipient, don’t miss “Sweet Traditions” (page 92), which showcases beloved holiday cookies from around the world. We’ve even included a recipe to add something special to your Christmas cookie lineup.
Of course, our December Issue would not be complete without our holiday gift guide. “Festive Finds” (page 98) highlights standout gifts for every family on your list — even your furry friends!
The holidays are a cherished time in our lives, and whatever your traditions, I hope you are surrounded by family and friends, savoring every blessing and looking forward to all that lies ahead. I know I certainly will be.
Wishing all our readers a magical holiday season!
With warm regards,
