The great Rita Moreno once said, “You are not lucky to be here. The world needs your perspective. They are lucky to have you.”
I’ve always connected with that message. I’m drawn to strong-willed, confident women who aren’t afraid to be heard, which is one of the reasons I love our April Women’s Issue — it allows us the opportunity to share some of these inspirational role models with you.
This year, we’ve got quite the lineup.
Let’s begin with our cover star, the legendary author Isabel Allende. A literary icon and tireless advocate for women’s rights, she has captivated readers for decades with her richly woven stories and memorable characters. In “The Spirit Of Storytelling” (page 66), she shares her journey from Chile, where she started as a Spanish translator for English romance novels, to becoming one of the world’s most revered authors.
Speaking of strong women, “A Legacy Of Generosity” (page 90) highlights one of the most incredible women I know and a true pillar of our community. Marilyn Simon Weinberg, along with her husband Jay, has shown remarkable generosity and dedication to our city (and beyond). She has long been a guiding light to me, and I am thrilled to share her story with our readers. I am blessed to call her my dear friend.
Women today are reshaping expectations, rewriting the rules and redefining success. Our piece, “No Ring, No Regrets” (page 72) explores the shift in what was once considered a cultural norm: marriage. In a fascinating twist, more and more women are choosing to stay single. We take a deep dive into this unprecedented and growing trend.
Few bonds are as unique — or as powerful — as the one between sisters. For Claudia and Jackie Oshry, that connection has fueled a media empire built on equal parts humor and hustle. In “Sisters In Sync” (page 78), we chat with them about how it all began, what makes it so successful and how they balance fame with family life.
And because strong women deserve a celebration … why not a movie night? “Ultimate Chick Flicks” (page 84) rounds up some of the most iconic films featuring fearless, unforgettable women. Just be sure to keep the tissues nearby.
Looking ahead, I am excited to share The Boca Raton Centennial Issue, our special edition celebrating the city’s 100 years. This one-of-a-kind issue will take the place of our traditional June/July Entertainment Issue, offering a beautiful look at Boca Raton’s rich history. Gorgeous, meticulously curated and truly special, it’s a keepsake you’ll want to revisit time and time again. And trust me — we have some incredible surprises in store that you won’t want to miss.
Lastly, to those who celebrate, I’d like to wish you a meaningful Passover, a joyous Easter and a spring filled with peace, love, light and togetherness.
With gratitude,
Linda L. Behmoiras
