Miuccia Prada famously said, “Fashion is instant language.” What we wear often reveals our personality and tells the world something about us before we ever say a word — perhaps one of the reasons I’ve always loved fashion. September has traditionally been our Business + Wealth Issue, but this year, we’ve reimagined it as Business + Fashion, celebrating the vision, entrepreneurship and creativity behind the industry.
Who better to lead the way than Stacey Bendet, the unmistakable founder and CEO of Alice + Olivia? Our cover story, “Bold By Design” (page 70), introduces the woman who launched the brand with a single signature piece and built it into a global success.
There’s much more to fashion than what’s on the runway. In “The Rise Of The Niche Riche” (page 78), discover why today’s consumers are redefining what it means to have great style and how exclusivity isn’t measured by flashy logos or designer labels but by craftsmanship, authenticity and one-of-a-kind finds.
Next, meet Blake Geffen in “Luxury On Loan” (page 86). As founder of Vivrelle, she has built a membership-based business centered on designer accessories. What began as a solution to her own wedding-accessories dilemma has grown into a platform built around access, convenience and personalized service.
Some pieces prove their worth long after the initial purchase. In “Fashion That Pays” (page 92), we explore why certain handbags, watches and items of jewelry become far more than beautiful accessories, appreciating in value as they’re passed from one generation to the next.
As summer gives way to fall, many of us also prepare to celebrate the High Holidays, a time for reflection, renewal and hope. And since this is our Business + Fashion Issue, I have to admit I also look forward to seeing all the fabulous style the women in our community bring to synagogue. To all who observe Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, I wish you and your loved ones a meaningful holiday season filled with peace, joy and good health.
