It’s not easy gathering the children for a day of errands, and assembling a chic outfit along the way can seem impossible. Looking polished on the go, however, is eminently achievable. We spoke to Boca Raton–based stylist and image consultant Rita Abramson, the founder of RiStyled, about simple ways to elevate everyday dressing while balancing the demands of family life. Because even when you’re taking care of everyone else, you deserve to feel confident and put together.
Get Active
Activewear has become a consistent part of the modern style vocabulary, which is something you can use to your advantage. Abramson recommends looking at high-end athleisure brands for comfortable, movable pants that are also intelligently designed to look like traditional slacks, whether wide-leg or cropped. “Athletic wear is great because it’s very stretchy — you’re comfortable in it,” she says. “They’ve elevated a lot
of their pieces to not look like you’re just going to the gym.” She recommends choosing more structured pieces and staying away from cotton sweatpants, which lose their shape.
Mix And Match
While we’re often taught that workwear and casual clothing don’t mix, Abramson encourages blending polished pieces with more relaxed staples. Pairing activewear with a blazer instantly makes the look feel more refined, while a denim or army jacket keeps it casual but intentional. Abramson also suggests a stylish sneaker to add flair to your outfit. A structured tote bag and a favorite accessory like a silk scarf or necklace tie everything together. “You don’t look like you’re going to the office,” she explains, “but you look like you’re pulled together and you put some thought into your outfit.”
Plan Accordingly
Abramson advises putting together three or four looks in advance and taking photos of them, then mixing and matching throughout the week. “If you’ve worn a similar outfit before, you were comfortable and you love the way it looked, that’s exactly what you should be repeating,” she says. “When you’re confident in what you’re wearing, that is what makes great style.”
