Wallpaper is making a comeback in 2025, and keeping up with home decor trends has never been easier. Enter the world of peel-and-stick wallpaper, where you can choose — but don’t have to commit to — vibrant designs that add a unique flair to your home. We spoke to Danielle Tighe, brand manager of Tempaper & Co., known for its removable wallpapers, for all the details on selecting and installing beautiful patterns.
Try A Trend
Choosing wallpaper is a very personal choice. It should reflect your style and the needs of your space. Feeling adventurous? Try a trend. Tighe says bold colors are in vogue, including “neutrals and warmer hues like plum, rust, red, marigold and metallics.” She also notes a resurgence of late 19th- and early 20th-century-inspired design. Popular textures include grasscloth and burlap, along with block-printed patterns and coastal- or nautical-inspired prints.
Order And Cut
When ordering peel-and-stick wallpaper, Tighe advises, “A general rule of thumb is to find out the square footage of each wall [or surface] that you’re covering.” This helps determine how many rolls you’ll need per square foot. “We always suggest that you round up because you’re going to have waste aligning that repeat,” she says, referring to the space a pattern takes up before it repeats. “Each roll doesn’t start at the same repeat,” she says — you’ll need to make sure it lines up yourself, so it’s good to have extra.
Hang Tight
When your wallpaper arrives, Tighe recommends pre-cutting panels, measuring twice and cutting once — especially for novices. Before applying, clean the wall thoroughly. “Make sure that you wipe your wall because otherwise it could hinder the adhesive performance,” she says. A one-to-one cleaning solution of alcohol and water works well to prevent adhesion bubbles when applying. Tighe suggests the surface you use is “smooth, primed and painted with eggshell or satin or semi-gloss … anything with a sheen is going to work better with the product.”
It’s also helpful to have a second set of hands to align, reapply or smooth out the paper. And if you ever tire of your wallpaper — just peel it off!
