We’ve all dreamed of winning the lottery jackpot, being financially set for life and comfortably retiring to spend the days on the beach (or traveling the world, in my case). But the hard truth is, the odds of that happening are slim to none. While success can involve a bit of luck, it’s grit, strategy and persistent effort that truly pave the way. The great beauty trailblazer Estée Lauder captured the sentiment best when she said, “I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.”
That’s why I’m so excited to showcase our September Business + Wealth Issue, which highlights the triumphs and trials of navigating today’s ever-evolving economic landscape. Leading the way is our cover star, the inspiring Jessie James Decker. “Hitting All The Right Notes” (page 60), traces her journey from being a young child with dreams of becoming a country music singer to achieving that goal — and so much more — as a cookbook author, successful entrepreneur and mom of four. Like me, she’s a firm believer in the power of manifesting — and proof that mindset and determination can make magic happen.
Of course, not all that glitters is gold. There’s a darker side to building and managing wealth: the rising threat of scams. With the advent of AI and increasingly sophisticated technologies, financial fraud has become more rampant and more brazen, targeting not just vulnerable seniors but also savvy professionals and business owners. “The New Face Of Fraud” (page 66) breaks down today’s most dangerous schemes and offers smart, practical tips on how to spot and avoid them, to protect both your assets and your peace of mind.
I’m proud to feature South Florida entrepreneur Erica Groussman, the powerhouse behind the protein bar brand Trubar. If you’re a busy, health-conscious consumer (I’m right there with you), you likely already know how incredible these bars taste and how good they make you feel. “Raising The Bar” (page 72) charts her rise from home kitchen experiments to building a brand valued at approximately $70 million — and the purpose-driven mindset that fuels her growth.
And speaking of mindset, we turn our attention to the ever-evolving definition of the American Dream. Once defined by home ownership and upward mobility, it now means something different to each generation. In “Rethinking The Dream” (page 78), we dive into those shifting ideals — from Gen Z’s focus on work-life balance to baby boomers’ traditional take — and what that says about the future of success in America. It’s a thought-provoking piece you won’t want to miss.
Amid this month’s stories, we pause to honor a beloved member of our community. Mark Perlberg was a devoted father, loving husband and respected leader. “A Legacy Of Integrity And Heart” (page 84) honors him, his achievements and the lasting way he touched so many. The feature was offered for the first time ever as a live auction item at the Myla’s Beleaf Annual Charity Gala last March, where devoted friend and business partner Terry Mayotte purchased it in Mark’s honor.
Moments like these remind us how deeply connected we are as a community — through both the joys we celebrate and the losses we mourn. It’s in that spirit of gratitude that I’m proud to share that The Boca Raton Observer recently received 15 prestigious awards from the Florida Magazine Association (FMA), including top honors of Best Overall Magazine and Best Overall Design, along with Silver for Best Overall Writing. I could not be prouder of our team, and I am equally grateful to you — our readers, advertisers and partners — for making these achievements possible.
Finally, as we approach the Jewish High Holy Days, starting with Rosh Hashanah on Sept. 22, I’m reminded of the themes of reflection and renewal, and the sweetness that defines this period. No matter your background or beliefs, I hope this time of year brings you fresh perspective, meaningful moments and plenty of joy.
Wishing you good health, serenity and sweet new beginnings,
Linda L. Behmoiras
