The Boca Raton Garden Club has always boasted talented “crafty” members as evidenced by their annual Holiday House crafts bazaar which features many handmade gifts and household items. Since the Pandemic has caused the Club to cancel or postpone many of its activities, members have devised a safe way to present their creative wares to the public with a “Spring Fling” Craft Show and Plant Sale at its Club House and Gardens at 4281 NW 3rd Ave Boca Raton on March 19 and 20 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
This special indoor-outdoor event will be modified to meet Covid safety measures, including temperature taking, mandatory wearing of masks and social distancing. Garden Club President Mary Kaub said,” Our crafters have been creating handmade items since the beginning of the Corona virus lockdown, resulting in more unique crafts than ever. We have decorations for Easter and Saint Patrick’s Day, patriotic holidays, spring and summer, as well as unusual creations for year round enjoyment. We specialize in unique pieces that cannot be found elsewhere.”
Co-Chair Patty Moum added, ”So please mark your calendars. The crafters are still busy making more fabulous decorative items and gifts for this event. We have lots of unique new crafts for sale this year- for example ‘People Planters’ made from terracotta pots, hand painted with heads, hands and dangling legs. They’re sure to be big sellers. Members have created one of a kind mobiles, wind chimes and other gifts from natural woods, plant materials and shells. We also have a large selection of embroidered and handsewn items - jewelry bags, aprons, and casserole carriers – a very popular gift!”
“In addition to the all the wonderful crafts ,” said Landscaping Chairman, Joan Witter, “ we again are holding a huge spring plant sale in our club’s beautiful gardens; we will be selling hundreds of beautiful plants and lawn ornaments at great, affordable prices. Plants grown and cultivated by our club’s own ‘dirt gardeners’ include herbs, orchids, succulents and a wide variety of natives. Gardening tools, accessories and ornamental yard pieces will also be for sale.”
The Boca Raton Garden Club has a long history of supporting the Boca community with scholarships and junior gardening programs for local students and Garden Therapy for senior citizens at FAU’s Memory and Wellness Center. Funds from Club events are also used to send students and counselors from Boca schools to Camp Wekiva nature camp each year.
