Ellen E. Roberts, Harold and Anne Berkley Smith Senior Curator of American Art, discusses the exhibition that celebrates Doris and Shouky Shaheen’s gift of twelve American oils and watercolors to the Norton.
Works range in style from impressionism to realism and demonstrate how American painters depicted the landscape from the late 19th into the 20th centuries. Artists examined include Childe Hassam, Andrew Wyeth, William Glackens, Jane Peterson, John Henry Twachtman, Guy Wiggins, and Wyeth’s son, Jamie.
