Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) will debut its newest traveling exhibit, Here Be Dragons, on Saturday, May 22.
• Here Be Dragons, presented by Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, celebrates dragons in literature, pop culture, history, music, art, paleontology, astronomy, astrology and science.
• Here Be Dragons is unique in its approach to education, conservation message and celebration of cultures around the world through live and mythical dragons.
• The exhibit is split into three dragon realms: Medieval, Asian, and Paleontology, each with a colorful and intricately designed set such as a fire-breathing dragon poking his head out of a castle.
o The Medieval realm takes visitors through the dragons of myth and lore from European literature and includes a replica castle and a large replica of the Hungarian Horntail Dragon featured in the Harry Potter series.
o The Asian realm explores the mystique of dragons in Asian culture and includes a full-sized Chinese dragon costume display and a dragon tattoo station.
o The Paleontology realm lets kids get hands-on with a dino-dig where they can put on goggles and grab a brush to unearth fossils just like a real paleontologist.
o Plus, guests will interact with more than 15 real-life lizards from 10 species, including the albino green iguana, plumed basilisk, black throat monitor, European legless lizard, roughneck monitor, Egyptian uromastyx, Chinese water dragon, frilled dragon, bearded dragon and clubtail iguana.
• Guests also can watch Dinosaurs of Antarctica in the AutoNation IMAX 3D Theater to learn all about dinosaurs and the science of paleontology; view the Galapagos 3D IMAX film to learn more about iguanas and other reptiles; visit the Prehistoric Florida exhibit to learn about animals from the past and the Ecoscapes exhibit to see amazing reptiles native to Florida!
