Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse, which opened in Fort Lauderdale earlier this year, recently added a new happy hour and tasting menu. Ukiah, which is haiku spelled backward, opened its first location in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2021.
At the heart of the restaurant sits a large wood-fired smoker where many of the signature dishes, including Smoked Brisket and Smoked Pastrami Short Rib, are cooked.
Menu highlights include Crispy Shrimp with chili butter and gorgonzola;
Sliced Hamachi with white ponzu, serrano pepper and herbs; Chilled Oysters with sparkling sake mignonette; Pork Belly Tonkotsu ramen with black garlic oil, shiitake mushroom and soft boiled egg; Red Snapper with brown butter ponzu, grilled lemon and sea salt; and Japanese Sweet Potato with miso butter, brown sugar, Parmesan and umami salt.
Cocktails with fun names like Bullet Train To Tokyo, Modern Love and
I Can Go For That are available, along with a variety of spirits, wines, sake and bubbles. The happy hour menu offers bites such as Crispy Pork Bao, Oysters and Karaage Chicken.
Top off your meal with a slice of Dark Chocolate Miso Cake with salted caramel ice cream, Mango Custard made with lemongrass and lychee or the Ukiah Tart, featuring toasted kinako butter, raspberry thyme jam and green tea ice cream.
Ukiah Japanese Smokehouse is located at 221 S.W. 1st Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. For more information, visit ukiahrestaurant.com.
