In Korean, Bonchon means “my hometown,” and now South Floridians can say there is a Bonchon in their hometown. The first South Florida Bonchon franchise, known for its hand-battered, double-fried, super-crispy Korean fried chicken, has opened in the heart of Miami Beach.
That brings the number of locations to 473 worldwide. The South Florida location falls under the Kochalos Hospitality Group umbrella, helmed by a trio from Bolivia who plan to open six more in the Miami area over the next few years.
The star of the show is the crunchy Korean fried chicken, which can be customized with hand-brushed sauces such as Soy Garlic, Korean BBQ or Classic Crunch.
Other offerings include Bulgogi — thinly sliced marinated USDA select beef, sautéed with mushrooms, scallions, sesame seeds and onions and served with white rice; Bibimbap — rice mixed with scrambled egg, lettuce, carrots, sautéed onions, spinach and mushrooms, with your choice of tofu, spicy chicken, bulgogi or seafood; and Japchae — glass noodles tossed with red bell pepper, carrots, onions, spinach, mushrooms and bulgogi.
For dessert, try the Korean Donuts — soft and fluffy Korean-style pastries coated with cinnamon and sugar on the outside, served with a sweet cream dipping sauce.
Bonchon is located at 905 Washington Ave. in Miami Beach. For more information, visit bonchon.com.
