The Sundy House may have been built in 1902, but the historic Delray Beach venue is always evolving.
Its latest incarnation is Taru, a new restaurant named after the mythical god of weather. The eatery, helmed by award-winning Executive Chef James Strine, pays homage to Florida’s connection to Caribbean, Latin and South American cultures.
Inspired by modern cuisine; locally sourced produce, fish and seafood; and Florida cattle, the menu brims with raw bar items, garden fare, comfort foods, travel-inspired plates and classics.
Some highlights: Crispy Local Fish, with Oaxacan mole and corn tortilla; Turkey and Stuffing Croquettes, with cranberry mayo and crispy sage; and Florida Bouillabaisse, with grouper, clams, shrimp, crab, saffron rouille and shellfish broth.

Libations are just as lively, from local craft beers to handcrafted cocktails infused with fresh-squeezed juices and herbs from the onsite garden.
Chef Strine, a veteran of Cafe Boulud, Buccan and Grato, continues the popular Savor Sunday Endless Brunch, showcasing oysters, shrimp and crab legs; charcuterie and carved meats; homemade breads and pastries; chicken and waffles; decadent desserts; bottomless mimosas, Bloody Marys, sangria and more – all brought to diners via servers. (Read: no waiting in a buffet line.)
Cuisine isn’t the only thing to savor here. The property includes a stunning garden with winding paths, gazebos, waterfalls, a koi pond, a bamboo grove and more than 5,000 plants from around the world.
Taru at Sundy House is located at 106 S. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach. For more information, call 561-272-5678 or visit sundyhouse.com.
