Curious children can put their creativity to the test on August 7 as they learn the art of origami. For ages 9 to 18, the Youth Origami Workshops teaches children to fashion unique origami and learn various folding techniques.
Obon weekend, on August 14 and 15, promises a memorable and educational experience for cultural exploration. Taiko drumming performances will occur four times on each of the days. Families are invited to stroll the gardens, decorate altars and write messages on “tanzaku slips” (small pieces of paper) in memory of lost loved ones. Visitors may also stop by the Kamiya Room to see Morikami’s Bon altar.

On Saturday, August 21, an online activity promises excitement for those near and far. Virtual Family Fun: Kakigori teaches attendees how to craft the premier beverage that is a favorite at Asian summer festivals worldwide. The shaved ice topped with sweet milk and syrup was once a luxury consumed by Japanese nobles. Now, the beverage recipe is accessible to you at this online event.
On August 28, September 4 and September 11, Morikami invites interested individuals to participate in a chirirenge carving experience. Chirirenge is a Japanese ramen spoon named after a fallen lotus flower petal. Participants will carve their own spoons out of wood, guided by an instructor, and take them home to use!

Additionally, guests are invited to sip après stroll cocktails, such as Unfiltered Nigori (sweet sake), at the Cornell Café. Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, located in Delray Beach, is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, click here.
