National Dog Day falls on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and South Florida businesses are marking the occasion with specials, events and amenities designed for travelers and locals who like to bring their dogs along.
Among the destinations highlighting the holiday is InterContinental Miami, recently named Hotel of the Year in the inaugural Canine Hospitality Awards presented by Roch Dog. The downtown Miami property will host an End of Summer Paaawty during its Paws Patio gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. on the hotel’s Picante Terrace, featuring a dog pool, sprinklers and complimentary pup cups.
Restaurants across the region are also getting in on the fun. For waterside dining, Shooters Waterfront is celebrating National Dog Month with a dedicated dog menu, a themed photo opportunity, live music and outdoor seating for pets and their owners.
Closer to home, Deck 84 offers three chef-prepared meals for your pup, with rice and raw carrots joining either a beef patty, chicken breast or salmon. Lazy Dog in Boca Raton also offers a menu for patio pups with a chicken breast or hamburger patty bowl.
Several South Florida hotels have expanded services for guests traveling with dogs. The Betsy Hotel in Miami Beach incorporates pets into its identity with resident dogs Betsy, Rosa and Daisy regularly greeting guests. Visiting dogs receive house-made treats at check-in, and a portion of the hotel’s pet fee is donated to the Harare SPCA in Zimbabwe. Dogs can even join their owners for live jazz at The Piano Bar.
Other Miami-area properties offering pet-friendly experiences include Cadillac Hotel & Beach Club, which provides dog beds, bowls and treats; Hotel Continental, where canine guests receive a welcome kit and a guide to local pet-friendly attractions; and The Goodtime Hotel, which offers itineraries highlighting nearby parks and walking routes.
Downtown Miami’s Elser Hotel & Residences features pet concierge services through WagSpot, while Arlo Wynwood partners with local pet-care providers and places guests within walking distance of dog-friendly breweries, cafes and public art. Novotel Miami Brickell also welcomes dogs, with nearby parks and waterfront paths offering plenty of room to explore.
Outdoor options abound as well. Miami Beach’s designated bark beaches, Haulover Dog Beach, Hobie Island Beach and many restaurant patios provide opportunities for exercise and socializing with pets.
Farther south, The Marker Key West Harbor Resort welcomes canine companions with amenities ranging from bowls and treats to optional puppy turndown service, along with easy access to dog-friendly beach walks and water excursions.
