From Dec. 16-28, Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, “Les Misérables,” returns to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Seen by more than 130 million people in 53 countries and 22 languages, “Les Misérables” remains one of the world’s most popular musicals. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, the story explores broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption. Presented as part of the Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Series, the show promises an unforgettable experience for theater lovers.
“‘Les Misérables’ never fails to astound me,” Mackintosh says. “No show in history has been able to continually reinvent itself and remain a contemporary musical attracting new generations of brilliant new talent. No show in the world has ever demonstrated the survival of the human spirit better than ‘Les Miz,’ and it's time to let the people sing again.”
Audiences can expect Boublil and Schönberg’s bold score, featuring classics such as “I Dreamed a Dream,” “On My Own,” “Bring Him Home,” “Do You Hear the People Sing?” and “One Day More.” Since its debut, the musical has become the sixth longest-running Broadway production of all time and continues to run record-breaking performances worldwide.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is a premier cultural venue, serving more than 600,000 patrons and 850 performances annually. With innovative programming and one of the largest arts-in-education initiatives in the country, it stands as an important part of South Florida’s vibrant arts scene.
