On August 21, Arts Garage will welcome Jesse Jones Jr. and his soulful sound.
Jesse Jones Jr. Music
Famously known for mixing Miami rhythms and R&B, Jesse Jones Jr. is collaborating with the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum and bringing his tunes to Delray Beach. A true Floridian, Jones Jr. was born in Miami and found his love of music while listening to a neighbor play the saxophone.
“I loved that sound and knew right then (that) I was going to be a musician for the rest of my life,” he said in a press release. Jones Jr. did just that, joining the U.S. Navy Show Band after he graduated from Mississippi Valley State University. His talents are not limited to the saxophone, though. He also tap dances, performs comedy skits and plays the clarinet and flute.

After his service term in the military ended, Jones Jr. produced his first CD, signing with Fantasy Records in 1996. Among those who have performed alongside him in the past are Ira Sullivan, Eartha Kitt and Donald Byrd. Jones Jr. will not be playing in Delray Beach alone; The Quartet, known for “brilliant ensemble work and top-quality music,” consists of pianist Silvano Monasterios, bassist Paul Shewchuk and drummer James Cotman. Recently, Jones Jr. produced “The So Then Collection,” a compilation of heartfelt tunes that touch on the famed Miami Jazz sound.
“I just love to perform and make people feel good and satisfied with what they are hearing and seeing,” Jones Jr. explained.
The Quartet’s August 21 performance will occur at 8 p.m. The Spady Museum is dedicated to sharing the African, Haitian- and Caribbean-American cultural contributions to Florida. For more information, click here.
