For centuries, “Sleeping Beauty” has cast an irresistible spell over audiences around the world, weaving its magic through literature, film and dance. From French author Charles Perrault’s 17th-century fairy tale “The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods” to Walt Disney’s beloved 1959 animated classic, the story has been reinvented and reimagined time and again to captivate contemporary audiences.
In 1890, “Sleeping Beauty” leaped from the page to the stage, transforming the timeless tale into a spectacular theatrical experience that would later become the standard for fairy-tale ballets. More than a century later, it continues to enthrall audiences worldwide — including in West Palm Beach, where the iconic ballet takes center stage at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts from April 17 to 19.
Brought to life by the Palm Beach Ballet, the breathtaking performance will transport spectators into a world of lavish sets, opulent costumes and the stirring compositions of Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky, who composed its entire score. The ballet follows a valiant prince determined to break the spell cast by the malevolent Fairy Carabosse and awaken the slumbering princess. With each graceful movement and sweeping note, audiences will be drawn deeper into a world of wonder — culminating in a spellbinding, happily-ever-after finale.
