Longtime fans of the 1980s award-winning sitcom “The Golden Girls” can now enjoy a side-splitting tribute to the beloved series with “Golden Girls: The Laugh Continues,” a theatrical production running from Sept. 3-29 at the Amaturo Theater in The Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Already making waves with sold-out performances and rave reviews nationwide, this new adaptation brings Miami’s sassiest seniors — Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia — to the stages of more than 60 cities with a unique, modern twist: Four male actors play the roles of the celebrated characters. Rather than a traditional drag show, Ryan Bernier, Vince Kelley, Adam Graber and Christopher Kamm deliver an uncanny representation of the four ladies, who, as in the original series, continue to tackle serious issues such as feminism, interracial marriages, aging, LGBTQ+ rights and mental health.
“Golden Girls: The Laughs Continues” reimagines the dynamics of the iconic women, introducing them to a fresh, comedic setting. “We find Sophia out on bail after being busted by the DEA for running a drug ring for retirees. Blanche and Rose have founded ‘CreakN,’ a thriving sex app for seniors. And Dorothy is trying to hold it all together with help from a new (much) younger sex-crazed lover,” states a press release. “‘Golden Girls: The Laughs Continues’ allows audiences to relive the heartfelt hilarity of the four ladies who never stopped being best friends.”
