Erik Alejandro Iglesias Rodríguez, internationally known as Cimafunk and celebrated as the “global ambassador of Cuban music,” is on a mission to bring his electrifying Afro-Cuban funk to every corner of the planet. Blending the rhythms of his Cuban roots with the soul of classic funk and modern hip-hop, he has wowed audiences with a genre-defying sound that is as fresh as it is timeless.
Alongside his high-energy nine-piece band, La Tribu (Spanish for “The Tribe”), Cimafunk has left an indelible mark on stages worldwide, from the legendary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and South by Southwest (SXSW) to the iconic Coachella, where he made history as the first Cuban-born artist to grace the stage at the renowned festival.
This month, South Florida gets its turn to groove as Cimafunk brings his infectious energy to the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on May 23. Rolling Stone has hailed his performance as “one of the most exciting live shows,” so expect a night of nonstop energy, groove and soul with explosive renditions of hits like “Catalina,” “Parar el Tiempo,” “Cun Cun Prá” and “Rómpelo.”
A Grammy-nominated artist, Cimafunk has joined forces with prominent names in Latin music like Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, CeeLo Green, Fonseca and Grammy-winning jazz virtuoso Jon Batiste. With every performance and collaboration, he’s reshaping the sound of Cuban music for new generations, establishing himself as a key figure on the global music scene.
