James Taylor returns to South Florida for a 7:30 p.m. performance at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood on Sept. 26.
Over a career spanning 60 years, Taylor has sold more than 100 million albums, won multiple Grammy Awards and been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Taylor earned his first Grammy nominations in 1970 for the song “Fire and Rain” and the album “Sweet Baby James,” then won his first Grammy for his 1971 recording of “You’ve Got a Friend,” written by longtime friend and collaborator Carole King. Their musical partnership stretched well beyond that hit: King played piano with Taylor early in his career, while Taylor contributed guitar to King’s landmark album “Tapestry.” The two continued performing together over the decades, eventually reuniting for their 2010 “Troubadour Reunion Tour.”
Taylor’s output has continued well into the 21st century. In 2015, “Before This World” became his first album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200, while “American Standard,” his collection of classic American songs, earned the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. Taylor has had a Billboard Top 10 album in six consecutive decades.
