Disney fairy-tale lovers and theatergoers are in for a treat this month when the timeless “Peter Pan” takes flight at the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from May 6 to 18.
This high-flying musical, which has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide for nearly 70 years, transports them into a world where imagination knows no bounds, all through a fresh adaptation by acclaimed playwright Larissa FastHorse. Directed by Emmy Award-winner Lonny Price and choreographed by Lorin Latarro, the production dazzles with its captivating storyline and vibrant set designs.
The adventure begins when Peter Pan — a free-spirited, mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up — and his loyal, fairy companion, Tinker Bell, visit the bedroom of the Darling children — Wendy, John and Michael — on a cool, crisp night in London. With a sprinkle of fairy dust and a few happy thoughts, the children are swept away to the land of Neverland, embarking on a magical journey they will never forget.
The timeless tunes of this extraordinary musical — including “I’m Flying,” “I Gotta Crow,” “I Won’t Grow Up” and “Neverland” — will awaken the inner child in every spectator. Themes of friendship, the battle against evil (in the form of Captain Hook) and the boundless power of imagination shine through.
