Angela Conroy, founder of All Kinds of Blinds of South Florida, Inc. in Boca Raton has always been a wonder woman — literally. She arrived in Boca Raton from the Northeast at 22 years old in 1981. She only had two suitcases and $250. She worked in an office during the day, attended college at night and waited tables by weekends. She’d run to the restroom, and in a flash, she’d swap her office attire for college clothing. She was just like Wonder Woman. “And we even had phone booths to change in then,” she jokes.
In 1987, Conroy earned her business degree from Florida Atlantic University. She ventured out again in 1988 with her husband Phil by her side this time, launching All Kinds of Blinds. Now, 33 years later she isn’t slowing down. With her son Ryan helping Phil with installations, the business has had “record breaking months” she says. “It’s crazy, but it’s good.”
All Kinds of Blinds, which serves Palm Beach and Broward counties, offers competitive prices on horizontal and vertical blinds, shades, plantation shutters, motorization and soft treatments. “This is a fast-growing and innovative industry,” says Conroy. “We work with several manufacturers to bring the best products at the best prices. Our clients appreciate the time I spend getting to know them and educating them on their choices plus the attention paid to detail.”
Conroy spends the first half hour of a job getting to know her clients. “I put myself in their place and figure out who they are, what their needs are and how I can help them achieve their goal while making their home more comfortable, beautiful and energy efficient,” she says. She educates them on their options while working within their budget. “Sometimes, a client thinks they know what they want based on what they’ve seen or had in the past. Oftentimes, they’re unaware of the new choices out there.”
The Boca Raton resident spends her free time volunteering for her church and raising money to help rescue children from sex trafficking. She has completed two MS bike rides where she earned a spot in Club 151 for being a top fundraiser.
