Highland Beach resident Michelle Yellin has devoted decades to philanthropy, with a special focus on Magen David Adom (MDA) — Israel’s national emergency medical, disaster, ambulance and blood services organization. Through her support, Yellin has sponsored two ambulances, built in the United States and shipped to Israel — a meaningful way to give back alongside family and friends.
“I got involved with Magen David Adom because I have family in Israel,” she says. “I’m very close with them and we communicate daily.”
Her late mother, a war bride from England active in Jewish charities, inspired her dedication.
“I have a license plate that says ‘L’dor v’dor’ — generation to generation,” Yellin says. “That’s how I see my role — continuing what my mother began and passing it along to my children and grandchildren.”
One ambulance, placed into service in 2024, has already handled more than 900 emergency calls. “I was thrilled that multiple babies were born thanks to the ambulance I sponsored,” she shares proudly.
Yellin has deep admiration for MDA’s life-saving work and is excited to support the organization at a December 9th event, featuring special guest Jonathan Conricus, former IDF spokesperson. She’s particularly enthusiastic about American Friends of Magen David Adom’s (AFMDA) partnership with Yvel Jewelers and the upcoming new Women’s Initiative, which is launching soon.
The collaboration includes Yvel’s new Shields of Light collection, with 30% of proceeds donated to AFMDA. Its new symbolic piece will serve as the centerpiece of the Women’s Initiative, uniting women who embody the empathy, strength and unity of MDA’s female volunteers — 48% of its life-saving force.
“They’re two incredible Israeli institutions that share values of compassion, resilience and leadership. I love that Magen David Adom and Yvel are coming together,” she says.
Yellin also serves as an ambassador for the IDF’s Givati Brigade, supports JAFCO, American Friends of Meir Medical Center in Israel and has organized fundraising events for various causes. She encourages younger generations to engage in philanthropy, noting that her grandson is exploring ways to start initiatives for young professionals through MDA. “I always say the more work I do, the more energy I get,” Yellin adds. “I just want to share my blessings and bring light — especially when it comes to saving lives in Israel.”
