Compounding Pharmacy
Make no mistake about it, Krysta Fuoco isn’t a pharmacist. She fell into the industry accidentally when her husband and partners invested in CDRx Pharmacy, a compounding pharmacy in Boca Raton, back in March of 2020.
“The product was good, but the place had no culture,” so Fuoco spent time overhauling the company and building a team. Her efforts turned CDRx Pharmacy around and put it on the path of exponential growth, earning her the title of President and CEO. “I love what I do and learn something new every day,” says the South Florida native.
CDRx Pharmacy personalizes medication, transforming it into medications that aren’t commercially available. They can change the dose of medication and its delivery, from pill to liquid, and they do so without compromising the medication’s effectiveness. They frequently work with pediatric patients who can’t swallow a large pill and if patients have allergies, they can remove the allergenic component so it’s tolerable for the patient. Fuoco says her team “helps educate patients on their options.”
CDRx Pharmacy specializes in hormones that focus on health, happiness and sexual wellness. Medications in the weight-loss space are available as well.
“People aren’t coming in for their allergy or blood pressure medication,” says Fuoco. “They’re coming in for specialized, personalized medicine that they’re not getting through their retail pharmacy.” The pharmacy works with dermatologists, ENTs, ob-gyns, infectious disease and functional health practitioners.
The team also treats animals. “That’s how many people find out about us,” says Fuoco. They primarily treat dogs and cats, but occasionally they’ve been known to have a turtle, koala and a horse as a patient. “That’s what keeps every day interesting.”
Licensed to ship medications to 23 states, they can offer same-day delivery or two-day shipping locally. Most compounded medications aren’t covered by insurance, but they promise the drugs are affordable and accessible.
“We’re here to get patients the medication they need. By the time they’ve found out about compounding pharmacies, they’ve already put themselves in the driver’s seat of their own health care and done their homework,” says Fuoco. “They want quality, and that’s what we deliver.”
