Jonathan Greenhut
Disabilities Nonprofit
When Jonathan Greenhut moved to Boca Raton in 2020, he was on a mission. He wanted to find long-term care for his sister, Marcy, who has a disability. At the same time, he was searching for a charity he could deeply connect with and support. Once he was introduced to JARC, his search came to an end.
“I was looking for a charity I’d feel good about donating to and spending my time helping,” he explains. “JARC definitely hit home for me.”
JARC is a nonprofit, nonsectarian organization that provides residential, vocational, life skills and enrichment programs and services to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Marcy moved into JARC housing more than a year ago. “They offer a facility for one of the most underserved communities,” Greenhut says. “It’s almost impossible to find somewhere that serves adults who are high functioning learning disabled along with physical limitations and can’t fully care for themselves. JARC has become a wonderful home for my sister.”
He shares that Marcy enjoys her new friends, who join her for breakfast and dinner, attend shows together and have even gone on a cruise. “She’s really having a great time,” he adds.
This spring, JARC will break ground on a new group home, which will be its 11th home. The home will be dedicated to Greenhut’s late father, Jerry. “My sister adored my father. This building is a meaningful way to honor his legacy and memory.”
You can get involved with JARC in many ways — volunteer with clients, join a committee or participate in fundraising efforts. Greenhut himself serves on the board, leveraging his expertise as founder and chairman of Sheer Science to contribute to the organization’s initiatives. He and his wife, Cecilia, are also actively involved in planning the annual gala.
Despite his contributions, Greenhut remains humble. “So many people are incredibly dedicated to JARC. Some have family living there and others don’t. These are amazing people who inspire me.”
He speaks passionately about the organization’s mission. “JARC is an incredibly well-run organization and an inspiring place. We’re fortunate if we have health and happiness, but not everyone is given the same gifts. At JARC, you see people enjoying a fulfilling life despite their challenges. It’s truly remarkable.”
