Judy Rosen Brings Years Of Nonprofit Experience To Her Volunteer Work
Judy Rosen has worked in the nonprofit sector for 30 years. When she moved to Florida from Chicago about a year and a half ago, she decided to use her knowledge and experience to help an organization that has meant so much to her family — JARC Florida.
Her nephew has been a client of the Boca Raton-based organization that helps those with intellectual and developmental disabilities for seven years. When she saw what a positive impact JARC Florida was having, not only on her nephew, but also on the rest of her family, she was hooked.
“My nephew is thriving and has a full life and this has given his family a full life because they know how happy he is,” says Rosen.
JARC Florida offers group homes, apartments and adult day training, as well as programs that allow clients to work at a partner business. Rosen serves on the Development, Gold Key Society and Gala committees. During the past year, the pandemic has caused JARC Florida to pivot, but she says everyone has been up to the challenge.
“It’s an experience that many nonprofits are grappling with,” says Rosen. “I have worked with a lot of professionals over the years and the JARC Florida staff is beyond, beyond.”
Reaching out to donors just to say “hello” has been an important part of the Development Committee’s role. “We want our donors to know we are thinking about them year-round and not just when they write a check,” says Rosen.
The Gold Key Society is a group of donors who give non-designated funds, meaning the money can be used for what is needed. “This has been really important to us in the last year as JARC Florida had to figure out how to protect clients. It was a huge expense and the community stepped up,” she says.
Rosen explains that she entered the nonprofit world years ago because she wanted to make a difference.
“I may never be in a position to give $1 million, but I can see the impact I have made. At the end of the day, that’s a good feeling,” she says.
JARC Florida is located at 21160 95th Avenue South, Boca Raton. For more information, call 561-558-2550 or visit jarcfl.org.
