South Palm Beach County is experiencing remarkable growth. Thousands of Jewish families are choosing to make their home here drawn by the warmth of the community. Yet this growth comes at a complex moment for Jews, both locally and globally. The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County (JFSPBC) is meeting the times leading with proactive and thoughtful strategies.
“Our work focuses on four major pillars,” says Igor Alterman, president and CEO of JFSPBC. “Each reflects a real need and communal opportunity.”
Affordability.
“While South Florida can be a paradise, the skyrocketing cost of living — housing, Jewish schools, camps, kosher food — is straining families,” Alterman explains. The Federation offers tuition assistance to Jewish day school families as well as summer camp scholarships. Federation investments are also aimed at offering safety-net services to the most vulnerable in our community, including Holocaust survivors.
Combating Antisemitism.
“Antizionist rhetoric directly connects to the rise of antisemitism,” says Alterman. Federation works closely with law enforcement and elected officials. “We advocate on behalf of the community to have our voices heard and our community protected.”
Jewish Identity.
“In the wake of Oct. 7, we’ve seen a resurgence in Jewish life — people are rediscovering Judaism,” Alterman says. Through partnerships like One Table, PJ Library and Honeymoon Israel, JFSPBC helps families deepen their connection to Jewish values, heritage and community.
Israel.
In solidarity with Israelis still recovering from trauma, the Federation has partnered with a kibbutz near the Gaza border that was attacked on October 7, helping rebuild homes and restore hope. To support that work, Federation will send three missions to Israel in the next 12 months — two volunteer-based and a solidarity one.
“These four pillars define who we are,” says Alterman. “Locally, in Israel and around the world, Federation leads in action. Join us in achieving the Federation’s boldest goal yet — a $20 million campaign to secure the Jewish future. “If you want to be part of the effort, invest in Jewish Boca — the time is now.”
